GFC Newsletter

Everywhere around us, people are scared. If we read the local news, we get frightened of the security situation: we worry about where to go, which route to take. If we read the international news, the news is just as bad: wars, earthquakes and most recently bird flu. We don’t even know what to do any more, or even what to eat!

What role can a school play during these dire and tiring times? Actually, no different a role than any other time: to educate. It is our job to elucidate facts, to explain, to teach and to allow students to use this knowledge and make their own analysis. It is our duty to pass on values of tolerance and compassion, of working together, rather than against, each other. And most important of all, it is our duty to teach not to pass judgment before all the facts have been known.

For this reason, we have included in this, our first issue of this year, a few answers related to the questions of bird flu. We hope that you will find the information helpful.

We have also made some changes to the magazine this year. We are now publishing twice rather than four times a year. The magazine is bigger and in colour. Plus, we have included some of our students’ work as well as information from various departments at the school. We hope that you enjoy reading it. As always, we appreciate any comments or suggestions that you may have. Please do not hesitate to contact us.

The Editor.
